Doesn’t look exciting but what we’ve got here is hop hash.

This is a highly resinous by-product of the hop pelletising process, which is usually discarded as a waste product.

With breweries always looking to do new things with beer and its raw ingredients, Sweetwater Brewery in the US has pioneered its use in a beer and it’s beginning to take off.

The product is a very limited, seasonal product. It can only be scraped off and packed at pelletising time (just after the hops are harvested), so will only happen once a year. But expect to see more beers being created with this in the future.

The first in Australia will be Mountain Goat’s limited release hop hash IPA aka Hashtag IPA. Hopefully will be arriving in store soon!
