There’s been a changing of the guard within the Sydney craft beer scene over the last 12 months. This relates to the ownership and direction of one of the city’s driving forces of craft beer, Sydney Craft Beer Week (SCBW), or as it’s now known, Sydney Beer Week (SBW).

The team behind Dave’s Events and Dave’s Brewery Tours acquired Sydney Craft Beer Week at the end of 2017. Since then they have been working feverishly behind the scenes to build on the efforts of the previous organisers to ensure Sydney’s annual beer week is a must attend fixture on the Australian beer calendar.

They’ve taken the existing program and made some tweaks along the way, including:

-Changing the name from Sydney Craft Beer Week to Sydney Beer Week. The idea is to be more inclusive of the broader beer drinking community and celebrate good beer as a whole.

-A broader geographic reach of events to include greater Western Sydney and remove the Inner West / City centricity of past years - after all Parramatta is the geographic centre of Sydney!

-Dedicated resources. In previous years the festival was run on pure passion and a crazy shoestring budget. Sydney Craft Beer Week was started by a handful of craft beer enthusiasts who had fulltime jobs, families and everything else in between. This year there’s a dedicated team driving the event, with an awesome blend of industry experience, connections and passion - all resulting in a better platform to run the event.

-They have made it easier for event holders and punters to register for events by partnering with Event Brite, a leading ticketing system.

The core focus of Sydney Beer Week is to showcase producers and venues that make up the Sydney beer scene. The week long festival takes place between Friday 20thand Sunday 29th of October and there are over 100 events now live on the Sydney Beer Week website (sydneybeerweek.com.au). There is sure to be something for everyone.
