Good but not all time
Founders- Kentucky Breakfast Stout 2016
Imperial barrel aged stout with extra coffee and chocolate
Think I fell for the hype a bit- this is a great beer but there’s a lotta better brews out there. I reckon it was better with the cursory swig I had out the bottle, where the big bourbon aftertaste took like 10 seconds to arrive but hit me like a bus.
Anyway, it’s still very good, fairly mellow on the booze for the strength (12%) and with waves of coffee and chocolate and even a bit of cherry and caramel in the background. Pretty decadent.
Still, it could be better; it lacks the syrupy mouthfeel of the founders imperial, lacks the drawn out, lingering bourbon of the backwoods bastard, lacks the huge flavours of the barrel aged narwhal.
I kinda liken it to Black Sabbath, listening to them for the first time when you’re 25 is very different to hearing them when you’re 12. It’s just a very well done beer in its’ genre, nothing more or less.
That said I still really liked this, not too expensive either. Worth a drink just keep your expectations in check. 8.5/10

Syrup of the Gods
I am from Michigan and it is harder to get KBS in Michigan than it is to get here! I was so excited to see this as an option on Beer Cartel because of how rare it was.
My partner was able to enjoy it for the first time and called it "syrup" as he poured it.
The flavors of coffee and vanilla are strong in this beer.
Would recommend to enjoy in a cool climate instead of January in FNQ...but it was still enjoyable :)
nice but ....
very harsh booze late on the pallet
