Pirate Life Stout
Brewery: Pirate Life
Format: 500ml Can
The summer months have moved on and winter is well and truly upon us. When the short, cold and rainy days draw you indoors, you search for something rich and warming to keep your spirits up. Previously there were three options: lighting a fire - which requires what could be described as at least moderate levels of work; cooking a hearty stew - also a fine option, but so very time consuming without adequate planning; and lastly cutting open a horse, nuding up and sleeping inside the hollowed out carcass - ala Leonardo Dicaprio in the Revenant.
Here at Pirate Life we decided that none of the above really tickled the old fancy. The call was made to find something easier, something quicker, something which requires less horse entrails... The answer: Pirate Life Stout.
A smooth 7.2% Stout brewed with Oats, Black and Chocolate malts, EKG and Columbus hops, Pirate Life Stout is perfect for the cooler months. The malts take centre stage with a cacophony of coffee, chocolate and sticky date pudding and a rich creamy mouthfeel thanks to the oats. Columbus smacks the palate with a healthy dose of bitterness and also works with EKG lending a gentle, earthy spiciness to the beer. The result is a stout that we here at Pirate Life are excited to share with you all.
We hope that this beer finds its way to you sometime this winter, on a cold day when you left for work in the dark and arrived home as the sun was going down. When you need something to wash away the cold. A dessert in a can. Pirate Life Stout. You might end up wishing winter lasted longer...
WHAT OTHER CUSTOMERS ARE SAYING
I like this stout. It is full, rich and smooth. Not too bitter, or sweet. Fills the mouth with pleasure. This one I will go back to as a regular purchase.
Great flavour and one that I want each weekend in winter. Smooth malty flavour with a good amount of hops and the after taste is just fantastic. Everything I want in a stout and some!
Deeply Malty Stout with more Hoppy bitterness than most
As Stouts go, this one packs a deep roasted malty fullness you'd expect, but the surprise is the extra hops, with an IPA-like aroma and after-taste bitterness. In a tall can and at 7.2% alcohol, it's one to share and split between craft-beer glasses with a friend or two, to discern these subtle variations on the "Stout" theme. Not as sweet as some, and packs a punch!
Rich and smooth
This a quality stout. Buy it with confidence. Medium to full bodied, rich lashings of coffee and chocolate with a nicely balanced bitterness.
Dark and handsome
Like most Pirate Life products this does not fall short. A big stout with a great mouth feel this is more smokey on the finish than I expected. As an Irishman I have found this and 4Pines stout to be a cut above the rest in Oz.
