First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

Awesome beer
I would put this in my top five favourite beers of all time

Wonderfully smooth
The Karmeliet Tripel pours a cloudy golden hue with a sustained creamy head. The combination of wheat, oat and barley grains produce wonderfully smooth and fruity ale. Unfortunately priced like many craft beers from Belgium, more reserved for special occasions.

For a great taste serve frosty
This beer really tastes awesome when served frosty especially when ice starts to form inside.

Simply the best Belgian beer
Refreshing and ever-so-slightly tangy, this beer is a showpiece of what trappiste brewers can do with several hundred years of tradition at their fingertips.
Recommend this beer to go with snacks (nuts, cheeses) or with light pasta dishes (pesto) or just with a sandwich.
Although this is a trippel and thus the alcohol content is elevated, this is not noticeable and the beer really sits well within itself as a prime example of Belgian brewing.
Not to be missed!

The drink of kings
This is the beer equivalent of a top quality aged spirit, except it wont burn your throat or your pocket. Strong and complex suited to sipping to explore the flavors here.

Very Good
Served in a beer tulip the translucent, almost milky straw-yellow pour produces a 1/2 inch white head before collapsing to absolutely nothing at all. No lacing which is to be expected. A decent twirl of the glass yields a mixed array of aromas including banana, champagne, clove, lemon, coriander, booze, white grapes, bubblegum and pear drops. Aromas like these are exactly why we love Abbey beers, they are so complex. The mouth feel is frothy with high carbonation. Medium-full body. The palate is amazing, with repetitive flavours of lemonade, bubblegum, banana, clove and booze that intermittently come in and out from the fore-flavour through to the champagne finish.
